Read it. Hear it.
Never lose
your place.
Bring your own ebook and audiobook. Tap Listen and the narrator starts on the sentence you were reading. Stop, and you're reading again right where the voice stopped.
Your ebook. Your audiobook. One place in the story.
You bought the book twice: once to read, once to hear. Unison Reader puts the two together, so the place you're at is the same place in both.
-
Bring both.
Add the ebook and the audiobook you already own, from Files or from your library server. One file or a folder of chapters, it doesn't matter.
EPUB the ebook M4B the audiobook MP3 or chapter files -
Unison lines them up.
On your iPhone, it listens to the narrator and finds every sentence of the book in the recording, a chapter ahead of where you are. Nothing is uploaded, and the narrator's audio is played exactly as it came.
-
Tap Listen.
The narrator starts on the sentence you're on, and the words light up as they're spoken, right down to the word.
-
Tap Stop.
You're reading again, on the sentence the voice stopped on. Pick it up tonight on the page, tomorrow in the car. It's one place either way.
Only have one of them?
Pairing is what Unison Reader is for. When you only have one half, it fills in the other.
Just the ebook
A natural voice made on your iPhone reads it to you, with the same following, the same Stop, the same place. It's built a little ahead while the app is open, and kept.
Just the audiobook
Unison Reader makes the text from the narration on your iPhone, so you can read along, look back, and pick it up on the page.

Questions
What do I need?
An iPhone running iOS 26, and books you can open as files: an ebook, an audiobook, or both. Unison Reader is iPhone-only for now.
Does it work with books from Audible or Kindle?
Only if the files aren't locked with DRM. Books that are tied to another store's app can't be opened by anyone else's app, including this one. Unison Reader will tell you when a file is protected.
What if my ebook and audiobook are different editions?
Unison Reader matches the words, not the page numbers, so small differences are fine. Sentences the narrator doesn't read, like an epigraph or a caption, stay on the page and the voice steps over them. If a book ever comes out of step, Settings has a way to line it up again from the start.
How long does lining up a book take?
It starts with the chapter you're on and works ahead while the app is open, so you can start listening long before the whole book is done.
Does it need the internet?
Not to read or listen. The first time you add an audiobook, iPhone downloads Apple's speech model once. You'll also need a connection for the classics catalog and your library server.
Which languages does it support?
English, for now.
What happens after my free hour of listening?
Reading stays free forever. To keep listening, unlock it once for $4.99. It's yours on every device signed in to your Apple Account, and shared with your family through Family Sharing.
